I conducted research on a topic I was passionate about, which culminated in my thesis and the publication of the book “Atelie Makis.” In addition to researching and documenting the verbal and photographic material myself, I also designed the book to ensure that my findings are accessible to a wider audience and remain relevant over the years.
There are numerous signs in Cyprus in areas unreachable for decades, leading to a gap in recording visual communication material. Therefore, I decided to make a record for the city called *Varosia, where for 49 years, the signs remained unexploited.Through research on the signs of Varosia, I observed that Konstantinou Makis, the sign maker, signed most. Researching further his personal work file as a sign maker since 1974, I created a book to record all this information and keep Konstantinou Makis’s work alive (more precisely, as much material that has survived from 1960 until today).
* Varosia is one of the occupied areas of Cyprus. After the 1974 invasion of Cyprus, it remained closed for 49 years. The entire city was frozen in time, untouched by humans or technology.
